Amanda Serrano will put her undisputed featherweight champion status on the line against Danila Ramos on Oct. 27 in Orlando, Florida.

The pair will make history since this is the first unified title fight with 12 three-minute rounds. Ten rounds lasting two minutes each has been the long-held standard for women's championship fights.

Serrano said the event "is about more than some belts."

"We have faced a long and hard battle, united as women, to achieve the same pay, respect, and recognition in boxing," she said. "Together, on Friday, October 27, we will make history and prove to the world once again, how incredible women's boxing is and that we are just as tough, dynamic, and capable as any man in the ring, if not more so. This is a fight for women everywhere to be treated the same as their male counterparts."

In August, the WBO ordered Serrano to defend her featherweight crown against Ramos, who became the organization's interim champion by earning a split decision over Brenda Karen Carbajal on Aug. 18. The 38-year-old is 12-2 with one knockout across her career.

Serrano figures to be the heavy favorite considering she's 45-2-1 with 30 stoppages. Her last fight saw her win a unanimous decision over Heather Hardy on Aug. 5.

As the 34-year-old said, she and Ramos will be competing for more than individual glory. Claressa Shields is among the notable stars who have advocated for women's boxing to receive equal treatment in terms of the length of fights.

Fighter safety is often cited as a justification for maintaining the status quo, though it didn't stop MMA promotions from normalizing men's and women's championship fights.
